About

Hello, my name is Alexandra, owner of Huss Does Hair, but all my friends (you included) call me Alex. It’s my mission to provide an uplifting, modern hair experience with timeless results that will not only have you looking your best but feeling your BEST! Growing up with five younger sisters, I had plenty of har to practice on. When I competed in dance and cheerleading, I got to play with makeup, fashion, and HAIR! In my free time, I spent hours watching hair tutorials on YouTube. This inspired me to start experimenting on my sisters' hair. Luckily for my clients, this early practice helped me figure out what worked well and what didn't work out so well. It also sparked my desire to have a career in hair. When I shared my feelings with my parents about doing something different from the traditional four year college, they fully supported me. They even offered to tour a few schools with me. So, we went and toured the Aveda Institute. While we were there, we overheard a group of teachers talking about New York Fashion week. Instantly, I knew this is where I want to be a hairstylist. This could open so many opportunities for me. Finally, in 2015, I started my hair education at The Aveda Institute in Des Moines. After graduation, I stayed in Des Moines and worked at Serenity Couture, which was known for prioritizing their employees and education. Every day, I was surrounded by stylists that were educators at The Aveda Institute. Other stylists attended elite hair events like the North American hair competitions that specialized in editorial work. These stylists gave me advice and helped me become better every day. In March 2019, I moved to Sioux Falls where my then boyfriend (now husband) started his career. I was determined to find one of the best salons in Sioux Falls, which is when I started working at Vanessen's as a hairstylist. In addition to learning new hair skills, I learned how important it was to give back to others and the community. I was surrounded by people who made serving others their FIRST PRIORITY! There is so much more to being a hairdresser besides technical skills. I learned about caring about how the client feels leaving the salon. I also learned how important it is to give your best to each client while being a part of a team that helps one another. Over the last year, I started to watch other hair stylists online in Europe, Los Angeles, New York, which made me start paying attention to how fashion trends affect hair. Challenging myself to try some of these different hair techniques that would sometimes leave me in tears… growing your skills isn’t easy my friends. Eventually, the late nights, the redo’s, the “extremely discounted” services paid off. I found what was working and not working for clients. I was getting the feedback that meant so much, “I love my hair Alex and how different it is from others in town”. This next journey, I’ll solely be focusing on the hair services that continue to inspire me to bring you beautifully modern results. Mixing my love for fashion and hair behind the chair will give you a unique, upscale experience. I feel everyone needs a person in their life to help them feel beautiful I’d love to be your person! First Client Experience in hair school: My Aunt Sue (bless her heart for being so daring). I thought everything was going well…. then I noticed her shirt was COMPLETELY soaked while I was shampooing her. We proceeded not to say anything about it until after she left her appointment. She is one of my best clients to this day! We can change the “big hair” if you think it’s cheesy Big hair dreams: Working at New York Fashion Week. I also want to share my knowledge and passion by educating others. Best thing about being a hairstylist: I can be my truest self (spelling, grammar flaws and all) sharing my personality, bringing laughs to my clients while helping them look and feel their best.
